WOW, the fastest selling PC game ever!!
Talk about selling a video game. Up until a few days ago, there was a little game for the Xbox 360 named Gears of War that sold 3 million copies, making it the fastest selling 360 game ever. There was a good amount of hype surrounding that game, but not as much as you would think. Then a little game that made an even bigger impact than the Wii launch, the PS3 launch, and Gears of Wars on its first day out.
World of Warcraft is a very popular massive multi player online role playing game that has pretty much overtaken the genre in the last year or so, with 5 million or more subscribers world wide. I have to admit. I bought the game a few months after the launch and was hooked myself for a little while. The first expansion pack to WOW, The burning crusade, was released last week and get this, sold 2.4 million copies the first day….day one….2.4 million in a single day. Talk about lines, people were lined up outside of their local gaming store waiting to partake in all the new content. This massive selling of The Burning Crusade has made this game the fastest selling PC game of all time. And to think, the game cost 40 bucks and you have to pay a monthly fee to play, so it isn’t like it was a bargain or anything.
This expansion added more lands to explore, raised the level cap from 60 to 70 and added 2 new races for players to bounce around the new content. no new classes were added but the Shaman and Paladin class, which was previously exclusive to certain factions are now playable on the opposing faction when you create a character with one of the new races. Almost temps me to dust off my old WOW CDs and start playing my lvl 52 Human Warlock again. For more information check out The Burning Crusades website
