Slim HDDVD Rewritable drive toshibaI dont know why I thought that this was already available but according to Toshiba, they will be releasing the worlds first slim HD DVD rewritable drive in July. Now that I think about it, there are HDDVD drives available in a few laptops but they arent rewritable.

Looking at Toshiba’s press release, it looks like the SD-L912A can read and write just about every format available (except of coarse Blu-Ray). It even writes to dual layer HDDVD media which should be available soon.

Most of the write speeds are still pretty slow, with 2x for single layer HDDVD media and 1x for dual layer HDDVD media.
