Remote Entry….sortof…..for your home
I went to the store today. When I got home, I got out of the car, grabbed all the stuff I bought from the back, and started walking to my front door trying to figure out if I can unlock the door without putting the stuff in my arms on the ground. I then started to think that it would be nice if the button on my car alarm’s remote would also unlock the doors to my house when I pressed the button. Remote entry is pretty commonplace in cars why is there not a similar option for your home?
Well the GSM Doorbell isn’t quite what I was thinking about but it has some features that lead in that direction. To explain what it is, it is a device that attaches to your door. When you have a visitor, they can press the button on the doorbell and if your not home, it will dial your cell phone, or whatever phone you want. You can then talk to the person via the doorbell’s intercom from your phone. If you want to let that person in, you key in a code and it unlocks your door. You can also use it directly by calling the device and unlocking your door through your cell phone, so in the situation I was talking about earlier, all I would have to do is call when I’m pulling into the driveway and unlock the door.
The device is said to cost about $600, which for what it does isn’t all that expensive, it probably does need a little work done to get it connected/installed. And according to Oh Gizmo, there may be a separate connection fee or something associated to get it working with the cell phone etc
