Ive been tryin to watch the Super bowl in HD for 4 years… Mission accomplished!!!!!!
Guess what I’m watching!?! Ive been a proud HDTV owner for about 4 years or more, but Ive never been able to watch the Super Bowl in HD. Why you ask? lemme explain.
Year One:
The first year I had the HDTV I didn’t have any HD content on my television so it was simply that I didn’t have any access to anything HD at the time on my television.
Year Two:
The second year I was a proud owner of the VOOM HDTV satellite TV service (god I miss that service). Voom had plenty of HD content but it pulled all of the local HD channels over the air through a outdoor antenna that was connected to the roof mounted dish on the house. Needless to say, the weekend of the super bowl, I had friends over and I couldn’t get any of the local channels to come in so I connected to the cable (I still have basic cable to go along with my internet connection). So to keep from missing the Super Bowl, I didn’t bother messing around with it.
Year Three:
The third year I was determined to watch the super bowl in HD so I spent all evening the Saturday before getting the signal to come in good…I was all prepared. I worked day shift that weekend so I was getting home around the time the Super Bowl started. I got off work, rush home so I wont miss the opening kickoff, turned on the tv and what do I get? Black screen. I messed around with it throughout the whole first quarter and never got a signal at all (I think my neighbors gigantic old school satellite dish is absorbing all the tv signals in the area, whatt is he doing? transmiting data to mars?). Eventually, I gave up and plugged in the old trusty Cox cable and watched in standard def once again.
Year Four (today):
Ok now I am mad, I’m gonna watch the Super bowl in HD if it kills me. I turned down about 3 invitations to Super Bowl parties because they don’t have HDTV’s and I want to watch the game in HD. Around 12 this afternoon, I get the ladder out of the garage and commence to a major overhaul of all the wiring going from the outdoor antenna to my television. I was getting blips of the TV station every minute or so and it never got any better. After about 3 hours, I looked at my neighbors Nasa transmition station…screamed some obscenities at it, and sadly gave up.Walked back in the house, cold, whimpering, basically a broken man. I sat on the couch, grabbed my laptop with a tear in my eye. Then got up to connect the good ole Cox cable connection.
Then I thought, hmm lemme try one last thing. I went into the guest bedroom, and got some old rabbit ears out of the closet. Now this antenna is old. I had them when I was in high school and I graduated in 1990. They are soo old that they were made to connect to the television by screwing the wired into the back of the tv. They had a coax connection screwed onto them that I used when I got a new television that didn’t have the old school screw in antenna connection. I plugged them into my TV…not thinking that there was the slightest chance it would work. and guess what? Its been working every since and now Im watching the Super Bowl for the first time in HD….whats up with all the fumbling!!!!
