I miss my Sidekick 2
I have been using a Treo 650 for about 7 or 8 months now and even though I really like that phone, I am ready for something new. Before the Treo, I was using a Sidekick….well it was the Hiptop from suncom which is the same as the sidekick. I bought the first one and used it till the paint faded from it, then when the sidekick 2 was available through suncom I bought that and used that for about a month before Suncom royally screwed me with the whole Suncom/Cingular merger or whatever that was. (I’ll tell you what happened there at the end of this post).
Well yesterday I grabbed the old Sidekick 2 and charged it to see if I can get a phone number out of the address book and I realized that I really missed the Sidekick. The Treo is nice but the Sidekick was great for sending and receiving emails, text messages, and IM’s. and it just plainly felt a lot more comfortable doing so than the Treo. The Phone part of the Sidekick was horrible so I had a motorola phone that I used for phone calls and the Sidekick for data. but you just cant beat the ease of use and functionality of the Sidekick when it came to the keyboard, and typing emails and IM’s. Ive honestly thought about getting rid of the treo and going back to a Sidekick/Phone combo lately.
Ok to talk about what happened to me with the Sidekick 2. I called Suncom one day and ordered the Sidekick 2 (Hiptop 2) over the phone. It was a straight $299, I wasn’t qualified to get any discounts or anything so I had to pay full price. I really wanted the upgrade and I had heard the rumors about Cingular taking over Suncom in my area so I asked them before I ordered what will happen when Cingular take over. The nice young lady on the phone said that the service will just get switched to Cingular and there will not be any changes other than who I will be paying my monthly bill. So I ordered it, used it for about a month, then got a letter in the mail saying I had to go to my local Suncom store and trade my phone for a Cingular phone. The phones they were offering for trade were all the el cheapo free phones that is usually available to people when they get a new contract. So I called cingular and asked them about the Sidekick2 and they were like they aren’t going to support it. Then I asked if I can get a trade that would be more on par with the Sidekick, and they said they would offer me the LG 9800. Which is another el cheapo phone with a keyboard that sold for $99 at the time. So I complained and they said Suncom shouldn’t have sold me the Sidekick and to call them.
So I called Suncom and they were like "We cant do nothin for you man" so I paid $299 for a phone that I only used for about a month and a half. That Sidekick 2 still looks brand new sitting on top of my refrigerator.

Oh I still have my sidekick 2, just cant use it like I want too. From what I hear you I can put my sim card in and it will work, can make phone calls and stuff but the data features wont work
