Get your DirectX 10 gaming on for a little less
Windows Vista is out and all the gamers out there are waiting to beable to take advantage of the new capabilities that Vista will bring to gaming. To be honest, right now you will probably have a hard time getting games to run due to the lack of drivers for a lot of the higher end video cards.
The thing that will have the biggest impact on gaming is the release of DirectX 10 (check out these screens, they look awesome). Right now, the only card that Im aware of that supports DirectX 10 is the high dollar Geforce 8800 gtx. Lucky for you, DirectX 10 hasn’t been released yet, and games that take advantage of DirectX10 are still a ways off. If you wanted to get a head start on things, but not pay $600+ for a video card, you might want to check out the newly released budget version of said video card. The Geforce 8800GTS is the cheaper little brother to Nvidia’s current offering, with the main difference being that it has only 320MB video ram, instead of the 768mb the Older brother has.
320 mb is a pretty odd number, don’t know how this will effect your gaming but with a price of $299 (at Newegg) it makes it a lot more affordable card to get your Direct X 10 gaming on when those games finally appear.
