Do you need a portable ice maker?
Ever been to anyone’s house, they offer you something to drink, but they have no ice? Either their ice maker doesn’t work, or they have no ice maker in their fridge? Whatever the reason, if you are like me and use to having the ice maker in the fridge its hard to imagine not having one. A friend of mine falls into this category. No ice maker. A lot of times when I visit for drinks or dinner or something, I will get one of those 1 gallon zip lock bags and fill it with ice to bring with me.
That person has a birthday coming up so I thought for a while. I cant buy that person a fridge, but I can get a portable ice maker. Over at Wine Enthusiast, they have a relatively inexpensive portable ice maker.
This thing sounds like it would be perfect. You fill it with water and you start getting ice in about 10 minutes. The website says it makes 12 cubes every 10 minutes and up to 26 pounds a day. Its not a permanent replacement for having an icemaker built into your fridge but it is good to get some ice really quick for a dinner party. One good thing about this portable ice maker is that as the already made ice melts, due to lack of use or leftover, the water drains back into the machine to be used to make ice again. Nothing is wasted.
The portable ice maker cost $129 at Wine Enthusiast
