pbhxbox360.jpgI knew this was coming, it was just a matter of when and in what form. Microsoft announced that IPTV capability will be added to the Xbox 360 this year (closer to the 2007 holiday season). There aren’t many specific details about what the service will include (I’m sure they are still planning stages) but from what I can gather from the various sources and Microsoft’s website is that it will be similar to Microsoft’s current IPTV Offerings.

According to the press release, some of what will be offered is video on demand and DVR like functionality. 360 users will also be able to receive HD video "channels" and shows. Theres also a social aspect to the service where you will be able to use voice chat, send messages and game invites, and share your favorite shows while downloading, viewing, recording shows and programs on the IPTV network.

Microsoft has partnered with AT&T in the US with this project in conjunction of AT&T’s new Fiber optic network (Project Lighspeed)
