Brief hands-on with Dell’s Massive 27″ Widescreen LCD
I have to admit, In my computer room I still have a 19" CRT monitor. I still haven’t made the upgrade to LCD. To make matters worse, I actually have 2 19 inch CRT monitors. At work however there are plenty of PC’s and LCD monitors. Recently I was present when one of the PC’s at work received a new LCD. This monitor is the largest PC LCD that I have ever seen in my life in person. When I say in person, Im not counting what I see in Bestbuy, I mean something that I see in a regular environment, where I am actually using it at a desk etc.
The monitor is the Dell 27 inch ultrasharp widescreen LCD (can be found here). I haven’t had much time with it, but the time I did have with it made me realize something. I don’t want a monitor that big. When I was using it, I felt like it was just too big for me to be sitting a few feet away typing documents and browsing the web…er…using the software we use at work. And to think, at one time I was thinking about getting a 30" LCD to use with my PC at home. I think 22" is about as big as I want to go now.

This monitor from Dell maxes out at 1920×1200 screen resolution and have a 6 millisecond response time. Overall, with my quick use of the monitor, it had a very beautiful display but at times, I did feel that I want a monitor that looked a little better. In this case, that may have more to do with the video card than the monitor. The PC I was using had the onboard Intel video card.
Other features on the monitor include a few USB ports and memory card slots (who uses those "bullet point" features?) and it accepts HDMI and DVI inputs. You can find the Dell 2709W Ultrasharp Widescreen monitor for $999 at Dell.
