Apple iPhone

Tomorrow is the big day. the iphone is here!!!

are you going to be at your Cingular / At&t  or Apple store bright and early to get your hands on what you all have been waiting for?

The Apple iPhone

Well Im sad to say it but I have no interest in buying the iPhone currently. Its cool looking and all, and I’m sure it will probably be a good phone, but there are 2 reasons I don’t have any interest.

    1. I don’t want to be pecking out text messages, phone numbers, and emails through a touch screen interface. It seems cool if your just selecting items from a menu but I just think any real message sending will be a pain.

    2. Its just too expensive right now. at $499 and $599, thats just a little more than I want to pay for a phone that I have the concerns about that I listed as number 1.   maybe when the price drops.

Many will not be able to get the iPhone, but don’t be too disappointed. there are (or will) be other options. Here are some alternatives, if you want that touch screen goodness but don’t want (or cant get) an Apple iPhone.

Introducing the Prada phone (LG KE850)

This phone was actually announced by LG before the iPhone and a while back there was a little discussion about if they copied Apple or vice versa. so far the prices on this phone are actually a little more than what you would pay for the iPhone but it looks a little cooler. Some of the features include:

  • 3 hour talk time / 300 hour standby
  • bluetooth
  • Edge capable
  • Media player (mp3, mpeg4 video)
  • 2 mega pixel camera (with video capture)
  • 240×400 3 inch screen
  • USB (PC sync)

This phone hasn’t been released yet but it will probably cost you about $630 or more)

Introducing the HTC Touch

This phone was one I talked about briefly a couple of weeks ago. Its made by HTC and it has some similar features of the iPhone. The interface is designed to be used in the now traditional way of tapping things with your finger, but this one also include a stylus to be used when your doing some more in depth typing (such as email and text messaging). Its already available in the UK and will see a stateside release soon. The price of this baby is also around the $600 dollar range. Some of the features of this bad boy are as follows:

  • 2.8 inch screen
  • 128 mb rom/64 mb ram
  • Bluetooth
  • 802.11b/g wifi
  • 2 megapixel camera
  • 1 gig micro sd card (included)
  • Runs on GSM/Edge

Introducing the Samsung F700

Samsung F700

This phone seems like they didn’t want to fully commit to touch screen only. The bottom half of the phone slides down to reveal a full Querty keyboard. None the less, it still looks like an option for you Apple haters that want an iPhone like device, without getting an actual iPhone. some of the features of this phone include:

  • HSDPA and Edge compatible
  • 440×240 2.78 inch screen
  • Bluetooth
  • USB
  • 5 megapixel camera (with auto focus)
  • Media player (mpeg4, mp3, acc, and real)
  • Micro SD card slot

I haven’t seen any pricing info on this phone yet, but you can probably guess that it will also be in the $600 dollar price range.

So as you can see, if you want an iPhone like device, but not necessarily an Apple iPhone, there are some other choices out there. make your decision wisely
