I have been searching the web for the past few weeks trying to figure out a low cost way to upgrade several PCs. Both PCs are about 5-6 years old and other than some of the components on the verge of failing on me, they both are just dog slow. Ive toyed with the idea of just replacing those PCs with a low cost budget PC from say Walmart, since they are basically just email / internet machines. In my search, I forgot all about a perfectly good option I was actually waiting on a few months back. The Eee Box.

Eee-Box-with-Intel-Atom-CPU

I didn’t realize that the Eee Box is now available for purchase. With a price of $349, this would be a perfect replacement for my email / internet machines.

Specs:

  • 1.6 ghz Intel Atom processor
  • 80Gig HDD
  • 1gig DDR2 ram
  • Ethernet
  • 802.11 a/b/g WiFi

Something that is missing from the list of specs is an optical drive, which you can easily buy a USB DVD burner for pretty cheap (the Eee Box has 4 USB ports).
